I just got off an extended phone in guest spot on the
Jeff Messer Show promoting the gathering and trying to create local interest in Daily Kos. Jeff has been hot on the City Council race for sometime now with interviews and appearances. We are hoping my appearance and his contacts will help generate interest in our meet up and Daily Kos in general. The Podcast will be available later this evening and I will try to update the diary with a link. You can always just go
here and click on
Latest Podcast in the right panel.
At the suggestions of DawnN and Gordon20024 I have been recruiting members of a wide field of sixteen candidates running for Asheville City Council to come to our meet up and talk to us about local issues that matter to them. Unfortunately I haven't had much of a response but hopefully today's radio exposure will change that up a bit. We'll see.
Gordon 20024 is a book junkie and he has a deep belief that everyone should have them some. I posted a few weeks ago about the books he is giving away at the meet up. And I just heard yesterday he went shopping again! So bring your book bags! As a bonus, there will be copies of One Pissed Off Liberal's book, Wear Your Love Like Heaven.
Our guests from here and the wider region are in for a treat on Saturday and Sunday. Regular readers may remember me bragging about my favorite music and arts festival, LEAF, the Lake Eden Arts Festival. This remarkable event takes place in the spring and fall at beautiful Lake Eden near Black Mountain. This year, to help fill the void left by the recent absence of our annual Bele Chere Festival, LEAF and the City of Asheville have created a brand new version of LEAF and it is coming to downtown Asheville on August 1st and 2nd.
I'll be performing there Saturday morning and will be returning for an evening show so if any of our guests want to continue our gathering downtown I'm sure we could all have a great time. And if you spend the night in Asheville you'll have Sunday to attend as well including more performances and a really amazing parade to wrap up the evening. There is more information here in last week's Open Thread.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
