Farm and Garden
Way back in March, on my birthday as a matter of fact, I diaried the story of the almost-extinct Bodega Red potato. I planted them in a gopher-protected bed.
I've been using them from time to time, digging one or two. Today I dug the rest and they are so beautiful and flavorful, could be used for anything. We will make potato salad with some; perfect texture.
Not washed. We'll brush off the dirt before storage.
The pole beans are so incredibly productive. Although we picked yesterday I needed some for the photo so I picked today. All the plants are from half a packet of 2014 seeds. What a fantastic ROI (Return on Investment).
Moar Beans.
We have peppers ready, red, yellow, and green.
Five zucchini plants are sufficient. Do you need some?
Slice, salt, microwave 3 minutes, yumm.
I grow a lot of tomatoes. I have always been sparing with the water, but I paid attention to kimoconnor when she touted "Dry-farmed" tomatoes as the most flavorful. I researched this and found that once the plants are established they completely stop watering. So I stopped. Somewhat distressing for me since there is leaf-drop and yellowing, but the quantity is good and the flavor is wonderful.
This plant is an Early Girl. The Ace are the largest and tastiest again this year.
I keep the mower on the back of my tractor all the time because it's an older tractor and changing implements is not easy and mowing is what I do most of the time. Though I love my Prius with its tow hitch, I found it was not the best vehicle (despite the fantastic turning radius) to tow my splitter around the farm. So I bought this cool attachment which clamps onto the bucket. You hook up the splitter and tow it driving backwards. Even better, you can push the splitter and get it exactly at the pile of wood to be split. Heavy duty and 100% American made.
Splitter hooked to Prius. Works fine on the flat, not so well on hills covered with slippery grass.
Mrs. side pocket creates a flower display outside of our front door and renews it frequently. This bit of color just appeared.
"Tiger Wood" Lily
As of 4:00 my computer is acting funny; Macs don't have a fan but this MacBook was making noise. I'll queue this up and hope for the best.
