Long overdue, in my opinion. But better late than...later:
Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton is set to air the first TV commercials of her presidential campaign—two spots that highlight her biography and motivation for running at a time when she is under fire and losing ground in some polls, campaign officials said Sunday.
Her campaign plans to spend about $1 million each in Iowa and New Hampshire during five weeks, beginning Tuesday, aides said. The spots will air in the major media markets in these states, the first in the nation to hold nominating 2016 contests.
The goal is to present a positive portrait of Mrs. Clinton ahead of what her aides expect to be an onslaught of attack ads this fall from Republican super PACs, a campaign official said. The aim is to “insulate” Mrs. Clinton from “what we know is to come,” the aide said.

Hillary Clinton is currently the presumptive (note that I'm not saying inevitable) presidential nominee for the Democratic Party.
However, her polling numbers/lead for the nomination in these two early states have declined in the last month and a half, as Bernie Sanders charged up to around a 25% (in Iowa) and 30% (in New Hampshire) share of the Democratic vote. That said, it's also stabilized in the time, maintaining a 25% (in Iowa) and 15% (in New Hampshire) lead. This is a fairly comfortable and consistent lead, especially in Iowa.
But Clinton has to realize that more than any other candidate, Democrat or Republic, she has to run both a primary and a general campaign simultaneously right now. She has all the strengths of a well-known presumptive candidate, and all of the weaknesses as well.
Bernie Sanders is not attacking her in any notable way, but the GOP is, and damage taken now could echo through later months and into November 2016. The GOP will be increasingly active both in terms of infighting among themselves based on conservative policies and using the Democrats (Obama and Clinton, notably) as foils to demonize. So silence is not an option, even with a comfortable lead in the primaries.
Positive ads on the air in these primary states from a Democratic contender, any Democratic contender, will be useful for all Democrats in terms of supporting Democratic policies from the Obama adminstration, and ensuring a Democratic voice on the airwaves.
