Tonight I listened to this BBC Interview on NPR and it is perhaps the most moving statement I've ever heard against the state operated death machine. No matter where you stand on the subject please take the time to listen to Mr. Ault. A transcipt won't do the job. You must hear him, in him own voice, describe his haunting experience, what it did to him, and what he is doing about it.
I've opposed the death penalty since I was 13. It's a horror and an abomination. Please take the time to watch the video and share it far and wide.
His account of supervising executions in the US state of Georgia was one of the most painful, searingly honest and courageous testimonies I have ever heard.
"It's the most premeditated form of murder you can possibly imagine and it stays in your psyche for ever."
"Murder" - an extraordinary word to come from the lips of a man who administered America's ultimate punishment on five occasions.
WA State Governor Jay Enslee has placed a moratorium on executions during his term of office. The law is still on the books and capital punishment trials still occur at great expense. According to The Death Penalty Information Center, a site that is worth a visit on it's own, the cost of a capital punishment case is between $1.9 and $3 million dollars.
I sat in my car and listened to this at 1:00 AM after coming home from work. It was so compelling that I didn't want to wait to diary it. I'm going to bed and won't be answering comments but I have no idea how I could add anything. It speaks for it'self no matter which side you are on. Please watch.
