It has been one year today since Ferguson, Missouri became a national story. Groups from around the country gathered in Ferguson this weekend to celebrate the life of a community member lost and to talk about the path forward for the residents.
They gathered in Ferguson to stand in solidarity with those who are hoping to change the world they live in.
Thanks to numerous friends and members for so many great photos below.
Kayla Reed, one of the organizers of the event, took time to meet with many of those who traveled, here meeting with Djuan Wash, a Kansas based advocate for Sunflower (Kansas People's Action). Her hard work helped bring this event together.
State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who some of you were able to meet at Netroots, joined the effort by those who practiced chalk art, to talk about the realities of PTSD.
Our friend and fellow Kossack Patricia Bynes, here with a department that is now taking more effort to change on these issues.
Mothers Against Senseless Killings (MASK) took to the march and held their banner high, signed by women who want to see change.
The March took to the streets on a Saturday afternoon, accompanied with a band and discussion.
A short Vine re-uploaded so it can be seen here:
If you missed it in my diary yesterday, I strongly recommend you watch this Youtube:
If you ever wonder why they keep at it:
This photo to me best sums up the feeling that this is about the future. Photo credit to Patricia Washington: what is happening today is about the future.
With a weekend of action, hugs, and remembrance people feel some hope that there can be changes, and things can be Alright.
