How about some non-divisive news that EVERY Dem should be giddy about. As expected The Donald has indeed kept the top spot despite Fox's attempt to destroy his credibility.
NBC's newest poll has Trump in first place with 23%! But that's not all! When you get a Donald in first place you also get a free pack of awesome sauce in the form of Ted Cruz and...wait for it... Ben Carson in the #2 and #3 spot, respectively.
Now what's stunning about this development is how much it reflects the COMPLETE separation between the GOP establishment and media talking points vs. the Republican base. Anyone following the former would haven't heard a peep about Carson, even though he's been polling strongly for, well, a neurosurgeon who wants to be president. But just a few minutes on FreeRepublic during and after the debate told a different story from what the establishment has been pushing. The wingnuts LOVED Carson. The freepers just wanted to give the guy a big ol' hug. Carson's rise is no surprise for the wingnut base.
As for Ted Cruz, as loathsome a toad as he may be you have to give him credit for smartly hitching his wagon to Trump's. Cruz was the winner by far for the wingnut base, but amazingly many of them are willing to accept Trump since he is the frontrunner despite believing he won't get the nomination. Why? Because when Trump fizzles, and they do believe he'll fizzle, Cruz will be right there to fill the vacuum and take nomination.
Frankly, I think that's exactly what may happen. Cruz hit all the, er, right notes with his limited screen time and that screen time will only increase in future debates. He knows how to dish the red meat and he has the rhetorical skills to take on rival candidates.
I recently took a look at the early 2012 Republican primary debates and I have to say those guys make the current crop look like summer stock amateurs. It's staggering the degree to which the GOP has devolved in only a few years.
So take a break from the infighting for a moment and think about this glorious opportunity for the Democrats, regardless of who our nominee may be. Pump your fist in the air cause dammit we really have a shot of keeping the White House and hell maybe even the Senate too.
Pass the popcorn!
EDIT: This is a NBC/SurveyMonkey Poll. Here's a Huffpo piece on SurveyMonkey
Update: Here is the link to the NBC segment on the poll. It's an online poll partnered with SurveyMonkey, a relatively new outfit who apparently nailed the midterms. Grain of salt and all that.
