Just wanted to share a small view from my window.
Spokane is not going unscathed during these terrible terrible fires. Our air quality , which hasn't been the best over these days and weeks, today turned "very unhealthy". Going out of doors is, to say the least, uncomfortable.
This smoke map gives you an idea.
And the cold figures of the Washington fire incidents.
Here are more pictures and information from local news KREM 2.
It's nothing, to say the least, compared to what the firefighters are going through and the people of these communities. But it is a keen reminder of the enormity of this disaster.
Just got this email!!:
from the Joe Pakootas Campaign: (the outstanding candidate I was talking about)
As you're probably aware, President Obama declared a state of emergency in Washington state today. Firefighters are traveling to Eastern Washington to help fight the fires from Minnesota, Canada and as far away away as Australia.
Yesterday we launched a effort to help residents & firefighters who have been battling the wild fires throughout Eastern Washington. Working with the Red Cross, we've asked for donations of items for firefighters, pets & people who are under evacuation & have been relocated. (See list of items below) Donations can be dropped off at Campaign HQ at 1410 W. Dean Ave., Spokane.
Volunteers will be here to accept donations on Sunday 8/23/15 & Monday 8/24/15 from 10am until 3pm. Items collected will be delivered to the Red Cross shelter in Colville on Tuesday 8/25/15. Below is a list of items requested for donation & you can find that information on our Facebook page.
Would you please forward this email to your circle of family, friends, neighbors, relatives & people with compassion & ask them to help? If you're available to help load up the donations onto the trailer Tuesday morning 8/25/15 at 9am, please give me a call at 509.217.2965.
Many thanks for your generosity & kindness!
