This is an important election cycle in Virginia, where I live, with Dems having a real chance to take back State Senate and cut Republican majority in State House. And yet I am sitting out this cycle, both in terms of activity and financial contributions.
Activity because I had spent so much time looking for another teaching job and now have to focus on my new position.
Financial because although our income will have gone up, and I have managed to rearrange finances to significantly reduce our monthly obligations, we still are carrying too much debt as a result of lost income because of my wife's cancer, my episode where they thought I was having a stroke (it turned out to be ocular migraines), my wife's need for cataract surgery (first eye done on Thursday, next in a few weeks), and health expenses for our three aging rescued felines.
I have cut back on many things, including my writing and my reading, and outside of family (including cats) and teaching-related, the only thing I expect to do the next few months is my regular volunteering in a free dental clinic in SW Virginia.
So political friends and candidates, I'm sorry not to be doing more than voting for my local Democrats, but hope you will understand.
As for the current presidential cycle? I will observe and share and comment occasionally, but I will not be as involved as I have been in previous cycles. And no, as of yet I have made no presidential commitments.
Also as I age, I will tend to reflect more on the meaning of my own life and consider what my legacy will be. I may from time to time share pieces of that, but much of that is written in small pocket notebooks that are always with me.
I will still take time to post here when I think I have something worth sharing, often something I have read to which I may wish to direct others.
I will continue to read the work of others, and comment if and when I have something I think worth sharing.
Peace.
