Zen Reflections
We have been doing all we can for our Louie the cat. Even presented him with the lovely gift sent by Sara yesterday. The latest blood test came out normal, so what's wrong is still a puzzle.
For the last week I've spent nearly every minute outside, where Louie likes to be, keeping an eye on him so I always know where he is. Compared with him, Judge Crater was a piker. Even averting my eyes for a second, to perhaps look at a cloud, and he's out of sight. But there has been an interesting upside.
The mornings have been totally overcast, and completely silent. Occasionally the sound of a plane breaks the silence, and by focussing my ear to the north I can hear the susurration of highway 101 traffic from 12 miles away. My awareness of our bird population has intensified. So many types, so many different calls.
Around noon I see a tiny spot of blue above and as it widens the cool dampness recedes and it's suddenly warm, sometimes hot. Then I hear and see bees on every flower, working hard, and joined by the occasional butterfly. Once the sound-cloaking fog dissipates I hear an infrequent car sound, matched by the more frequent plane noise…..we have an airport in Sonoma County.
As the fog burns off the breeze begins as the temperature differences attempt to equalize. As the late afternoon fog returns the breeze intensifies until being outside becomes uncomfortable.
What has been amazing to me is that I have been able to sit for hours and hours alone with my thoughts, no music, no DKos, doing nothing but focussing on the little spot of white that represents my sweet Louie. I have never been very successful at meditation but hours and hours of this intense focus, I feel that I understand more of what that is about.
I plan to be here as this publishes but no guarantee because if Louie is out I will be also. If so please treat it as an open thread. I so much appreciate the many good wishes and thoughts about Louie from this wonderful community. I can only hope for the best,

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
