There I was busy painting a house. It was in Venezuela. I wondered why the people had gathered inside the house and none of them came out to speak to me about anything as was their custom. They were silently watching the television set. I knew President Carter was visiting Venezuela that day. I could hear the tv and I thought to myself that the translator was excellent and I wondered why I didn't hear any English.
So I came down the ladder to investigate and I saw about ten people glued to the tv set. They had streams of tears coming down their faces. It turned out to be very great news. They all said what a beautiful man Jimmy Carter was. To my shock President Carter was speaking without an interpreter and was doing a great job. That he touched the hearts and souls of millions that day is a story that you probably never heard in the USA and maybe it is time you did.
