Rain brings life to the Northwest. Drought can be brutal. I love the rain and I love it here.
I should admit that I actually live in Renton. It's a suburb of Seattle where Boeing used to play... and sometimes still does. I live in a house that was once built for Boeing workers. It's a large lot with huge pine and fir trees that have grown into the bedrock of this hill that I live on. When I moved in almost six years ago there was a rooster in the neighborhood. Now he is gone.
I have always felt like a stranger in my own neighborhood. Yet, most of my neighbors are just as much strangers here as I. We walked into a world that was not of our making. The history of the place where we live was stolen. If I were to guess, the history left with the jobs.
I was born in Vegas, I place I recognized years ago as a city at war with it's history. The Mohave desert is a land of dearth and beauty. Most people think of the dearth and the gambling yet forget the beauty.
I ended up in Renton. It is not bad here, yet the rooster is gone.
I have a 50 foot tree in my front yard that reminds me that roots take time. I could try to sneak in a rooster, but really I just need a dog.
