I don't trust Hillary Clinton and I'm horrified by her flamin' hot mess of a campaign.
Background: I'm a long-time Kossack and a lifelong Democrat. I will vote for whomever we choose as our nominee, and I will do so knowing that it's the better choice. From alleviating inequality writ large to protecting the environment to ensuring we get sane SCOTUS nominees, we need a Democrat in the White House.
If those bona fides aren't enough, I supported Hillary in '08. I was persuaded by her experience and policy chops and a little unsure about taking a chance with someone less seasoned.
That said, I will be beyond disappointed if Hillary Clinton is our nominee for '16 and gravely concerned about her performance. Given my background I'd say I'm more canary in the coal mine than concern troll, but feel free to draw your own conclusions.
Here goes: in July she'll take "a back seat to no one" among liberals. In September she pleads "guilty" to accusations that she's a moderate. Which is it? Any attempt to harmonize the two statements will lead nowhere cogent or even coherent. She switched her core political identity within one summer? And allusions to criminal procedure? Really?
Which brings us to the emails. I don't suspect she's done anything illegal or nefarious and I'm confident she won't suffer official consequences. But the 24-hour breakneck ride from "I'm sorry you're confused" to "I'm not sorry" to "I'm sorry" was harrowing and bizarre.
Her explanation for why she set up the private server? She "wasn't thinking" and things were busy. That's a shocking lie. My jaw about hit the floor when I heard that. Here's why -- we all know she set up the private server so she could have privacy and control. Hillary Clinton does nothing thoughtlessly. Nothing. Calculation is usually one her strengths. But here, instead of honoring us with the truth, she exposes herself to questions such as: what other endeavors might you embark on thoughtlessly? Will you lose your marbles when things get busy as POTUS? Again, I don't think these things, but the attacks all but write themselves.
The thing that really bugs me about this email cluster is her bald-faced lie about Sid Blumenthal's role during her tenure at State. Why offer a curiously specific denial about something no average voter would ever begin to care about? It's beyond frustrating. We deserve better. We deserve the truth.
But don't worry! According to an anonymous Clinton staffer she scheduled a rollout of a newer, more heartfelt and spontaneous Hillary. Planned spontaneity and calculated sincerity. Wow.
I'm mad. I'm also anxious, dreadful, disappointed, bewildered, and yes, gravely concerned.
If she's in this for the long haul she better get her ass in gear or pull over because I'll be damned if she ruins our chances for the White House or Senate. There's way too much on the line to tolerate this fuckery.
