This is good news, right?
We keep hearing from supporters of Hillary Clinton that there's no criminal investigation underway into her use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State, because she followed accepted practices and did nothing wrong.
Well it looks like now the Republicans are eager to establish that too:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Two top Republican senators asked the Justice Department Monday whether it is conducting a criminal investigation related to Hillary Rodham Clinton's use of a private server for email and whether the computer specialist who helped set it up is the subject.
Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin also asked Attorney General Loretta Lynch whether the department would deem a preliminary offer of immunity to the computer worker as a waiver of his constitutional rights against self-incrimination....
"Does the FBI or any other component of the Department of Justice currently have a criminal investigation open relating to Secretary Clinton's private server?" the senators wrote Lynch. "If so, is Mr. Pagliano a subject of that investigation?"
The senators asked her to respond to this question and several others by Sept. 21.
So within a week we should be hearing it confirmed from the DOJ that there's no criminal investigation underway of Hillary Clinton's use of her email server and the classified information that passed through it, right? And that should be the end of the whole "scandal," right?
Then she can get back to talking about the issues and why she'd be the best person to lead Democrats into the 2016 elections.
Because then we'll know for sure that there isn't a criminal investigation by the FBI or any other component of the Department of Justice hanging over her head anymore, dogging her and Democrats generally through the long primary season and then all through the long general election campaign.
Right?
