Hungary's border with Serbia slammed shut today with barbed wire, soldiers and new laws that make it illegal to cross or damage the fence.

Yet it makes little sense to prevent people from simply passing through on their way to hope.
Tens of thousands of men, women and children - many from war-wracked Syria and Iraq - have been racing to reach Western Europe...
People do not go back to face death.
"There is no going back now. We took the most dangerous trip in the word to get here because in Syria, there is just death. So we will die here if we have to. Women, children. We need the international community to help."
People do not go back when there is no hope otherwise for their children.

Mohammad Baqer, 18, showed up 20 minutes after the Hungarian border closed. He hadnt' slept all night, taking buses and walking all day only to arrive in Horgos too late.
"Now I need a new plan," Baqer said. "When I learned this news, I felt very bad. But I think more of my people, of people in Afghanistan and in Syria back home, who now don't really have a choice."
Austrian authorities said they were preparing for the likelihood that migrants would seek to bypass Hungary and enter Austria via Croatia and then Slovenia.
The only choice is do something humane, or throw them into the sea.
"Germany is strong and can do a lot," German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said in an open letter to supporters... He said that he believed that Germany would take in 1 million asylum seekers in 2015, an increase of 200,000 from previous estimates.
