Yesterday I posted a diary about how I have decided to switch my support from Hillary to Bernie after seeing Bernie in Greensboro, NC on Sunday. I now proudly sport a Bernie bumper sticker on my back window. I've ordered a yard sign and a couple of Bernie t-shirts.
Just a few minutes ago, I took it a step farther. I became a Bernie donor. I set up auto-drafts out of my account each month for Bernie. My husband decided to do the same. We are gay, and Bernie's support for gay marriage goes back a long way. That's important to me.
My move to Bernie came primarily from seeing him in action in Greensboro. He spoke very well and with passion about the issues. Another big reason I decided to vote for Bernie in the primary is because I am a progressive. Bernie is the most progressive candidate, so why not support him? Another reason is because Hillary declared herself a moderate. Why vote for a moderate in the primary when I'm a strong supporter of progressive causes? Even if Bernie doesn't win, I feel like I owe him my vote because he represents the progressive movement. I lose nothing by voting for him in the primary.
I'm not anti-Hillary by any means. I still think she is an awesome person, and I am thankful for her contributions to American society over the years. In fact, if she wins the nomination, I'll be out knocking on doors and making phone calls, just like I plan to do for Bernie in the primary.
