The Art Van Atta Park in Dayton OH was just a few blocks from the Walmart lot I am parked in, so I went for an afternoon walk there. Here are some critter photos.
The Daily Bucket is a regular series from the Backyard Science group. Here we talk about Mother Nature in all her glory, especially the parts that live nearby. So let us know (as close as you are comfortable) where you are and what's going on around you. What's the weather like? Seen any interesting plants, bugs or critters? Are there birds at your feeders? Deer, foxes or peahens in your yard? Seen any cool rocks or geological features? Post your observations and notes here. And photos. We like lots of photos. :)
Not sure what this is.......
But he had different colors than all the sparrows flitting around.
House Sparrow. OK, so there are a zillion of them--but they are still nice-looking birdies. :)
Dove in a tree
This birdie posed for one photo before flying off.
This one kept an eye on me.
And this one looked like he was having lunch.
If I were in Florida I would call this a Red Bellied Woodpecker.
Red-Backed Salamander. This comes in two color versions--the ones without the red stripe are "Lead-Backed". This group of salamanders doesn't have any lungs, and breathes entirely through their skin.
Young Red Eared Slider. He may actually be a native.
And now it is your turn: what's flitting around in your neck of the woods? :)
