Bernies Revolutionary Politics & Why He Could Win:
Last week, new polls showed that Bernie Sanders's campaign for the Democratic primaries reached new heights. The self-described democratic socialist now boasts a 10-point advantage over Hillary Clinton in Iowa and an astounding 22-point lead in New Hampshire. Despite these impressive results, an overwhelming majority of political commentators continues to dismiss his campaign as nothing more than a bump on Hillary Clinton's road to the democratic nomination.
They couldn't be more wrong.
Not only is Sanders's surge durable, but he actually has a serious chance of winning the democratic ticket. The reason so many analysts fail to make that assessment is because they view him through the lens of establishment politics.
Hillary, with her brand-name, consensual stances on the issues, overwhelming support of the Democratic Party, and unrivaled ability to raise enormous amounts of cash, appears unbeatable. But Sanders's campaign cannot be understood according to the usual parameters of U.S. presidential elections. His campaign is far too revolutionary.
Bernie Is Going Back To Chicago:
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be in Chicago on Monday.
He will give remarks and then take questions at an event held by the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics.
The institute is providing an opportunity for all presidential candidates to participate throughout the campaign.
Monday's event is at 11 a.m. at Rockefeller Chapel.
Bernie In Portsmouth:
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is in the race for the Democratic nomination, was the keynote speaker at an event in Portsmouth Friday.
Sanders, who is leading in the polls in New Hampshire, used the engagement to focus on critical issues for seniors.
Sanders blasted what he called outrageous price spikes by drugmakers.
“One out of five Americans who don’t have a doctor and get a prescription, cannot afford to fill that prescription,” he said.
Sanders said Medicare must be allowed to negotiate with drug companies to bring down costs to consumers and taxpayers.
He added that Americans who pay the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs should be allowed to buy medicine from Canada and other countries.
Hey look... a writeup on Tasini!:
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is resurrecting a ghost from Hillary Rodham Clinton’s past as he looks to expand his lead in New Hampshire.
The Vermont senator who is battling Mrs. Clinton for the Democratic nomination has invited Jonathan Tasini to join him on the campaign trail in New Hampshire on Saturday. While Mr. Tasini might not be a household name these days, he is quite familiar with Mrs. Clinton, having challenged her in a primary contest for her Senate seat in New York in 2006.
A former union leader, Mr. Tasini hammered Mrs. Clinton on her vote for the Iraq war and challenged her – to no avail – to face off against him in debates.
..
Mr. Tasini, a longtime fan of Mr. Sanders, recently published a book about him, “The Essential Bernie Sanders and His Vision for America,” and was inspired to offer his support.
“Had Bernie not run, I would have just stayed out of the whole thing,” Mr. Tasini said. “And if he hadn’t run I wouldn’t be looking around to find someone else.”
Sanders Runs The Most Effective Digital Campaign:
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is running the most digitally effective campaign, followed closely by Republican Ben Carson and Democrat Hillary Clinton, a Silicon Valley web optimization company argues.
Sanders, who at 74 is the oldest of the major parties’ prominent candidates, nevertheless is the tech-savviest when you factor in the number of analytics tools in use on the campaign’s website; the number of social media tools embedded on the campaign’s website; Twitter effectiveness (measured as number of followers divided by number of tweets as of Sept. 4); website load speed; website security, determined by SSL certification; and use of content delivery networks, according to Palo Alto-based Instart Logic.
Polls (Video In Link):
Republican presidential primary frontrunner Donald Trump trails Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, as well as potential candidate Joe Biden, in hypothetical 2016 general election matchups, according to a new poll.
The latest WMUR/CNN New Hampshire Primary Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows Trump faring better against former Secretary of State Clinton than he does against Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, and Vice President Biden, who has yet to decide whether he will run for president.
In the Sept. 17-23 poll, Sanders leads Trump, 57 percent to 37 percent; Biden leads Trump, 56 percent to 37 percent; and Clinton leads Trump, 50 percent to 42 percent. In all matchups, 1 percent of those polled said they would support another candidate and 5 percent were undecided.
Bernie On The Boehner Departure:
Bernie Sanders said that the demise of John Boehner demonstrates how far to the right Republicans have drifted, and the Democratic presidential candidate warned that the right-wing crazy may get worse.
In a statement, Sen. Sanders said, “It appears that even a very conservative speaker like John Boehner is unable to control the extreme right-wing drift of Republicans in the House. This is a party whose ideology is way out of touch with the American people. Without Boehner, it may get even worse.”
Sanders is correct. Things are likely to get worse before they get better when it comes to dealing with the Republicans. If the GOP goes all in on the insanity, Democrats are in for a real challenge.
The Republican Party is so far out of touch with the rest of the country that they were willing to toss Boehner out on his ear because he was not willing to shut down the government in order to provoke a confrontation with President Obama on Planned Parenthood.
VICE Discusses Bernies For Profit Prison Plan:
Bernie Sanders has a ballsy new plan to kill all of the US government's private prison and detention center contracts within three years in a bid to curb the country's soaring mass incarceration rate. But with a powerful lobbying presence and backing from several key political figures, experts and advocates say the private prison industry won't be taken down so easily.
Last week, the Vermont senator and 2016 presidential hopeful announced his co-sponsorship of the Justice is Not For Sale Act, staking a strong position on what he's called a "broken" criminal justice system. That system, he says, is riddled with corporate greed and rewards private prisons with incentives to keep beds full rather than reduce recidivism and promote social welfare.
"We need to start treating prisoners like human beings," Sanders said at a press conference announcing the legislation. "Private companies should not be profiting from their incarceration. Our emphasis must be on rehabilitation, not incarceration and longer prison sentences."
Chuck Todd Just Cant Believe Bernies Numbers:
NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd was flabbergasted by Hillary Clinton’s most recent poll numbers, telling MSNBC’s Morning Joe that he had to reread them to make sure he had it right.
Host Joe Scarborough read off a new CNN poll that found that Clinton was losing to Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire 46% to 30%. “How bad do those numbers look to you, Chuck?” he asked.
“I saw them yesterday and I said, ‘Double digits? She’s down double digits in New Hampshire?’ Can we take a minute here and realize Hillary Clinton is down double digits to Bernie Sanders?” Todd responded.
