Well some very good news out of Alaska.

Shell is ceasing drilling in the Arctic, because its drilling did not find oil and gas at sufficient levels to warrant the billions of dollars necessary in capital investments to recover them. More below the orange oil rig.
This move is good news for the environment and for Alaska. While allowing Shell to drill in the Arctic was something I strongly opposed, in truth, the conditions imposed on their drilling meant they only had a narrow window in which to drill to try and find oil and gas- we are approaching winter in Alaska and it gets REAL cold in wintertime and drilling becomes impossible as the sea freezes over. they did find some, but not nearly enough to warrant investing billions in the coming years and decades. hopefully Obama will now set aside the Arctic as a marine monument, now that Shell has pulled out.
