You know, I'm starting to think that America isn't even capable of what we refer to as self-governance. Honestly, we are without a doubt one of the dumbest countries on this ball of dirt we call a planet. No, I'm not saying that everyone who lives in America is stupid, but it's an inescapable fact that we are being ruled by the stupid and the insanely wealthy who bribe them to keep America that way while continuing to skim more off the top for themselves.
It's because of the stupid that we can't even acknowledge these simple facts:
1. People enjoy fucking for recreation as much as they do for procreation whether they'll admit it or not. No amount of abstinence only bullshit or other outright lies about sex being shoved up America's collective ass will change that. Nor will threats of 'Gubmint Shutdown' if we don't give into the Republican Terrorist Brigade's demands to defund and shut down Planned Parenthood.
2. Our infrastructure needs a massive, long overdue overhaul. From our bridges and roads to our railways and school systems, virtually every god damned thing in the country needs to be modernized, and sooner rather than later would be better. Will it happen? Not with our know-nothing Klan-Bircher ruled congress and corporate activist supreme court in charge.
3. Something's gotta give with America's damned gun fetish. Over the last three years we've heard about shooting after shooting after shooting and we keep asking ourselves when we're going to do something about it while the NRA continues to scream 'MOAR GUNZ!!!!!111!' and 'No dang ol' fekkin reg'layshun' while more people continue to be killed needlessly to satisfy that very god damned gun fetish.
4. Workers from the bottom to the middle need a substantial raise. Now. Sure, I hear all this talk about many cities raising their minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour over a few years, but by then those workers will still be at square one no matter how hard they work.
The Republicans and their Mises Institute Libertarian sympathizers can bitch all they want, but unless something is done to immediately raise wages in a meaningful way, we'll end up with a permanent underclass of working homeless. The sad part is, that's exactly what the right-wing reactionaries want because to them that's just 'motivation' for people to get off their asses and get jobs that don't fucking exist.
5. Social Security is neither broke, nor is it a god damned ponzi scheme. The same people who tell you these things are also the people who do virtually nothing while letting their money make more money for them and find more ways to take even more from the rest of us. Yes, that includes privatizing Social Security so those same clueless fucks can gamble it all away on Wall Street like they did with people's pensions and 401ks.
So there you have it. These are the things we can't even talk about because too many in this country are too ignorant or outright unwilling to listen. I just hope some people start listening before it's too late. Hell, it might be too late already. There's nothing more dangerous than an angry mob with nothing left to lose, and honestly, I think that's what it's going to take before our self-anointed betters actually start listening.
For now though, let's stop living Jay Gould's wet dream and elect some people who will actually do what we want for once instead of just cutting a little bit less than the Tea Birchers.
See you around,
Homer
