Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Coffee Hour at Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can discuss what’s happening in our lives, what we’ve been working on, and our opinions on current events. Our question for today: Do you ever give names to inanimate objects?
It is fairly common in American culture to give names to family pets. We live with only four cats, all of which came with names (they are all rescue cats). Cats, like dogs and birds, however, are animate. What about inanimate objects?
If you own a car, does it have a name? All of our motor vehicles have names. Bullwinkle is the name of our motorhome and Toad (i.e. Towed) is the name of the car we pull behind it.
What about your computer? Have you ever named your computer?
Are there any other household objects which you have named?
I suppose I should also ask if you ever talk to inanimate objects. While talking to pets—dogs and cats—if fairly common, have you ever talked to your computer? If yes, did this involve some sort of profanity?
This is an open thread located at the intersection of Politics and Religion. Antitheist reminds us:
“Keep in your lane and pass with care. Collision may be hazardous to your health.”
Feel free to talk about naming inanimate objects, or pets, or you can change the subject completely.
