Could we just step it back a minute? Could we possibly consider that it's a really good thing when a birth is a planned and wanted one? Could we possibly consider that preventing unwanted births is good public policy?
I appreciate that the organization known as Planned Parenthood provides healthcare services to women beyond those services directly associated with reproductive health. I think that's great.
But the reason I think Planned Parenthood is uniquely important in the realm of public policy is that it works to help women and men really think through whether now is the right time to bring another human being into this world, and if it's not, gives them safe and effective tools to prevent an unwanted birth.
People are gonna fuck. People are gonna get fucked. I appreciate that Planned Parenthood recognizes that reality and recognizes that bringing a child into this planet is something that needs to be thought through. Not all fucks should result in children.
In my perfect world, every single child born on this planet would be one who is wanted. I think it's good public policy to strive for that. That's why I support public funding of Planned Parenthood.
