Should have stuck with the kids doc.
You know, normally I love taking down politicians,
any politicians, or even talking heads for saying stupid shit. It gives me a creative rush, I get an almost childlike Jon Stewartish pleasure in calling bullshit bullshit, and not being very polite about it. If you've a strong enough stomach to have read any of my previous diaries, you know I do it as often as I can. But there's just something about taking down Dr. Ben Carson that makes me queasy.
There is something seriously wrong with Dr. Carson. He comes across as quiet and sincere, but he is definitely not connected to the human wavelength. He's like Mork from Ork, but without the funny clothes, he doesn't seem to understand the context or meanings of his words.
First there was this drivel about a Muslim President. Completely ignorant of the fact that said Muslim would have to be a natural born U.S. citizen, and that the founding fathers put that pesky "separation of church and state" stuff in the constitution for a reason. When called on the bullshit, he tried the neat pretzel twist of doubling down and walking back at the same time. O.K., he can be a Muslim, but only if he promises to uphold the constitution and leave his faith out of it. Well, duhhh asshat, any citizen that takes the oath of the Presidency is swearing to uphold the Constitution, and what's more he's doing it with his hand on a bible. What more do you want?
Guns and gun violence. I hardly know where to start. From reporting on BBCnews.com;
During the CNN interview, Mr Carson was asked about part of his new book, A More Perfect Union, where he wrote "through a combination of removing guns and disseminating propaganda, the Nazis were able to carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance".
He was then asked by CNN presenter Wolf Blitzer: "Just clarify, if there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time, would six million Jews have been slaughtered?"
Mr Carson said he doubted Hitler would have been able to achieve his goals if Germans had been armed at that time.
"I'm telling you that there is a reason that these dictatorial people take the guns first," he added.
God, there is just sooooooo much wrong with this. Hitler was elected Chancellor in 1933, he didn't start requiring surrender of guns until 1937 in preparation for ghetto policies leading to eventual mass incarceration. He had no problems with occasional Jewish violence, as this allowed him to paint all Jews as vicious criminals and cuff them around even more. And I'd like to know what kind of a chance Ben Carson thinks a Jew had, sitting in his house with a wife and three daughters when 10-15 armed soldiers bust in the place pointing weapons and ransacking it for guns. And
YES Dr. Carson, they most certainly would have gunned down the entire family at the first sign of resistance!
The Oregon college massacre. Really Ben? You would have yelled for everybody to charge the shooter, cuz he couldn't get everybody? Do you honestly think those terrified souls would have paid the slightest bit of attention to you? This wasn't a couple of terrorists armed with box cutters in a tight restricted aircraft cabin, it was a man armed with a loaded automatic weapon standing in the doorway of a classroom. What makes you think he couldn't have just sprayed the room if challenged. And I guess you missed that little blurb about the 30 year old vet hero who did exactly that, approaching the gunman until he had been shot seven times.
But the ultimate insult was having to sit there and watch him describe the time he was confronted in a Popeye's chicken place and had a gun stuck into his ribs by a robber. Grab him by the ears and headbutt him did you Rambo? Pull a Martin Riggs did you, suddenly grabbing and twisting the gun hand, then jamming the barrel under his chin and breathe heavily at him, eyes pinwheeling? No? So, what then? Look the man calmly in the eyes and tell him, "I think the dude behind the counter is who you're looking for". And once he turned and headed for the counter, did you do a John McClain, launching yourself on his back and grabbing him in a choke hold? Of course not, because you're just another tough talking chickenshit.
So, please Dr. Carson, go back to pediatric medicine. If you just do that, at least when you talk like a child, there's a good chance that they won't call bullshit on you.
Thanks as always for reading.
3:14 PM PT: I want to provide a quick clarifying update. I had meant to put this in the original article, but I forgot until Had Enough Right Wing BS reminded me in a comment. I'm just going to copy/paste my final impressions below.
In MY opinion, this will be the undoing of Ben Carson...He is trying to ride the Trump outrageous train, but he has neither the forceful personality or the long time outrageous celebrity status to pull it off...Instead he comes across as that "quiet but never to busy to stop and say hello" neighbor that nobody ever notices until the cops start hauling bodies out of his basement...I think a good part of his support is"sane" moderates and conservatives who look at him as a diversity candidate, and they are not going to take to these extreme views too kindly, his support could start dropping fairly quickly...
