But then, I'm 62. I remember being thrilled by it when I was a kid. I think what I'm most tired of are the articles I keep seeing about how awesome it is that some father is willing to let his little boy dress up in a girl costume.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
I think I would be more impressed if it was some father not objecting to his teenage son doing so. In my experience, little boys just like dressing up - and a lot of them like the sparkly stuff every bit as much as any little girl.
I think I may have already told this story, because I tell a lot of stories about babysitting my grandkids. However, ....
This happened last winter - I forget exactly when. I was babysitting while my daughter went grocery shopping because both kids were sick. All my offspring know that when they want to talk, I am perfectly willing to converse, and the kids and I had a long conversation that day. Don't ask me how the subject of Halloween costumes came up, because I wasn't sure even on the day it happened, but it did. I do recall that one of my few contributions to that discussion was that they needed to talk their ideas over with their mother next October (which being now).
My grandson said his sister should be Elsa out of Frozen, and he would be Anna. He very seriously explained to me that he liked being a boy a whole lot, but he liked dressing up in costumes just as much. My other contribution to that discussion was more or less "go for it, kid".
They will not be Elsa and Anna, as it happens. My granddaughter is going to be a jedi knight and my grandson has two or three options he hasn't decided among. I suspect I will find out what his choice was when they show up at my door.
My secondborn's 10th wedding anniversary is Halloween.
Things are settling down at work. My boss is back - he hadn't really been himself since the news of having to move the lab first hit, and it's really nice to be dealing with his old self again. I don't think I'll tell him that nothing seems to have been done yet in the space they were in such a hurry to have us out of.
My lunch date finally happened - the friend in question tells me she's taking the retirement offer, and will be leaving at the end of the year. When I expressed mild surprise, she asked me how old I thought she was (roughly my own age); it's a bit rougher than I thought - she's 65. Okay. I can see where that would lead her to a different decision than I made.
My Saturday mail included three packages. I was expecting two, and not on the same day, but everything I was expecting is now safely arrived. I can finish updating my address book now.
