Following on from my diary last week, Politico: Biden Secret Pre-Announcement Decision Could Maybe Come Next Weekend Or Shortly Thereafter, we get this from the NYT:
Mr. Biden initially said he would decide by the end of summer. Now aides are researching filing deadlines to see if he can keep his options open into November.
The danger for Mr. Biden, as his advisers know all too well, is that intrigue can easily turn into fatigue. After 10 weeks of his being egged on by Democrats disenchanted with Mrs. Clinton and by a news media eager for a race to cover, Mr. Biden increasingly faces demands that he make up his mind.
[...]
Some of those windows begin to close within weeks as filing deadlines approach. But his advisers have concluded that rules in several early primary states are sufficiently flexible that it would be enough if someone on Mr. Biden’s behalf notifies them that he might run, not that he formally declare his candidacy. That would allow him more time to make a final decision.
Ugh. Please try to reach a decision soon, Joe. Your indecision is hurting the other candidates. You're driving a lot of the collapsing-polls/discontent narrative against Clinton, and you're sucking media time away from Sanders as a serious contender (the final straw was when two major pollsters included general-election head-to-heads for you but not for Sanders). Both campaigns are potentially wasting resources planning for your entrance.
