Lots of big ACA-related news today, I realize. The big Kaiser Family Foundation report on the uninsured. Jeb! Bush's (likely B.S.) "Obamacare Replacement Plan". The first Democratic Primary Presidential Debate coming up this evening.
Unfortunately, I don't have time to write about most of that today, as I'm concentrating exclusively on a Special Project: My Official 2016 Open Enrollment Projection piece...which isn't quite ready yet.
It's fitting that I'm working on that story today, however...because today happens to also be the 2nd anniversary of ACASignups.net!
Yes, it on October 13, 2013 that I registered the domain name ObamacareSignups.net (later ACASignups.net) and officially launched this project, although it was 2 days earlier (October 11th) that the idea was actually born in a diary right here at Daily Kos:
Seriously, though, HHS should really start releasing the official (accurate) numbers of actual signups for all 50 states (or at the very least, the 36 states that they're responsible for) on a daily--or at least, weekly--basis. I don't care if it's a pitifully small number. 100,000? 10,000? 100? 10? Even if it's in single digits, release the damned numbers. Be upfront about it. Everyone knows by now how f*** up the website is, so be honest and just give out the accurate numbers as they come in.
Besides, that'll make it all the more impressive when those numbers start to (hopefully) skyrocket over the next 2 1/2 months.
My 2016 Projection will be announced soon, and in 18 days we'll be off and running again for Open Enrollment Year Three (#OE3)...but in the meantime, I just wanted to thank each and every one of you who has helped support this project with either
financial assistance, providing
enrollment data and other healthcare story links, your kind words of support and
linking/tweeting the website out to others.
I also wanted to extend a special thank you to Markos, Chris Bowers, Joan McCarter, Greg Dworkin and the rest of the team here at dKos who've helped support the ACASignups project so much (especially during it's 1st tumultuous year), as well as the "core" dKos members who helped provide so much data early on, including ArcticStones, Girdwood, page in seattle, ybruti, MotherShipper, gchaucer2, Rolfyboy6, gloriasb, Mokurai, dadadata, mistletoe, CJB, timmyc, rsmpdx, pierre9045, rugbymom, blue aardvark and others.
OK, back to work...Year Three coming up...
