A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Do You Like Germany ?
I'm OK with Germany. I've never been there but a lot of cool stuff comes from Germany. I like German engineering, especially their race cars. This picture shows the Porsche 919 Hybrids taking the checkered flag at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. They came in first and second. Porsche has won Le Mans 17 times. Audi has won it 13 times. If you add 2 for Mercedes-Benz and 1 for BMW, it's a total of 33 Le Mans wins for German cars. The Germans have made some pretty cool airplanes over the years too, but they're mostly out of that business now. When I think of German airplane designers I always think of that guy in Der Flug des Phönix, Heinrich Dorfmann.
I don't know that much about German music. I'm more into the Blues. Maybe some classical or opera fans can help enlighten us on this topic in the comments. I guess there were some pretty good classical and opera composers who were German. I do know a bit about German philosophy, having read some of it way back when. The most famous German philosophers were Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel,1 who is said to have provided the model for Marx's dialectic, Gottfried Wilhelm Liebniz,2 the co-inventor of calculus, and Immanuel Kant.3 Old-timey German philosophy can be difficult to read, even in translation. I pluck for you now a random paragraph from Kant's Kritik der reinen Vernunft, or The Critique of Pure Reason. How often have I had this exact thought as I sit down to write my Tuesday diary.
We still owe the reader a clear general exposition of the transcendental and yet natural illusion in the paralogisms of pure reason, and also a justification of the systematic ordering of them which runs parallel with the table of the categories. We could not have attempted to do so at the beginning of this section without running the risk of becoming obscure or of clumsily anticipating the course of our argument. We shall now try to fulfil this obligation.
I close with my recipe for
Blaukraut. I made this last week. I got the recipe a long time ago from my brother-in-law's wife, who is from Germany. I hadn't made it for many years but it was so good, and perfumed the house so wonderfully, that I'm thinking of putting it on the Thanksgiving menu.
Blaukraut is, of course, made with
Rotkohl.
4
Blaukraut
½ head purple cabbage, sliced fine
1 small brown onion, chopped
1 large sour apple, peeled, cored and chopped
Some chopped bacon or lard
red wine vinegar
½ cup red wine
4 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
1 heaping tablespoon light brown sugar
Salt
Melt the lard, or cook the bacon, in a pot. Sweat the onion in the fat. Add the cabbage, cook it down over medium heat, turning occasionally. Add a shot or two of red wine vinegar to fix the color. Add the red wine, cloves, bay leaf, salt and sugar. Put the apples on top of the cabbage, cover the pot and cook on low heat 'til done.
OK my friends, there's some more Tuesday morning madness. Now I must ask you, who has links to share, who is planning a meet-up and ...

LOCATION: The Piedmont Center for the Arts
801 Magnolia Avenue [expect city street parking] • Piedmont
Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Activism staff member is part of the cast.
The Piedmont Players present Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, a delicious, satirical political drama set at a nominating convention during a mythical 1960’s era election. A play about power, ambition, political secrets, and the race for the presidency, The Best Man takes place at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party’s nomination for president. It’s an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering, and what could be more fun in a presidential campaign season than these theatrical fireworks?
