Perhaps the biggest economic populist in the Senate, next to Bernie Sanders, and maybe Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. If it were strictly on the issues, I think Brown would have backed Sanders. But this is clearly a pragmatic decision on his part. Particularly since I'm sure he has his eye on becoming Clinton's running mate, should she win the nomination. And if she does, and were smart, she'd pick an economic populist from a key swing state.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, is endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.
Brown's endorsement could matter among Ohio primary voters next March as Clinton vies with Bernie Sanders for the party's nomination. Brown has long embraced the progressive label, taking positions more often affiliated with colleagues such as Sanders, of Vermont, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts than with moderates such as Clinton.
