"this girl ain't got nothing"
I am going between rage and sorrow after seeing that girl get beaten up by the brutal cop in SC.
Here are some of the things going through my mind.
Niya Kelly is my hero. I hope she is out on bail and I hope that the charges against her are dropped, and her arrest record expunged. We should demand this. It's a national issue.
Earlier today I heard that the girl beaten in the video had lost her mother and had recently been put into the foster care system. "ain't got nothin'" Sorrow.
Then just now I heard that the brute who beat her has said he has "cuts and abrasions". Rage.
I have been trying to figure out why the teacher didn't try to help her. Isn't the first duty of a teacher to keep students from harm? Well, he is obviously part of the system and doesn't believe that. Rage. I think he should be fired, just my opinion. If you don't think so, then answer me this- why didn't he try to help the girl?
After the cop left with his arrestees, the teacher resumed the class as though nothing had happened...that was dead wrong and nothing will excuse it.
That officer...a weight trainer with a nickname among fellow officers that implies steroid use, a brute. If a parent or other adult came into a classroom and did that to a kid, there would be multiple charges filed, and very high bail. He has a nickname among the kids too.
The response to this by the school administration is completely inadequate. What have they done to protect the girl in their charge? Their lame press talks sound like a lawyer wrote them. They need to own up to their failure. The girl did not deserve this, and they need to affirm that, and go to extreme lengths to make sure that that girl gets medical and psychological attention, and they need to go to her foster and birth families and MAKE IT RIGHT. Rage rage rage.
I feel so bad about this, thinking hard about it all day at work.
Niya Kelly is my student of the year, citizen of the year, and my hero.
