Welcome to Help Progressives Win.
One of the best ways to help progressives win is by increasing the number of registered voters.
From my comment in kos' diary Forget Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Third Way has figured out how to get you REALLY pumped!
Like kos says, "There are more of us than there are of them". But it won't matter if we don't get our Voters to cast a ballot.
In my own state of Washington, there are about 560,000 eligible voters who aren't registered.
From the Census Bureau data:
Overall, 131 million people voted in 2008, a turnout increase of about 5 million people since 2004. During this same 4-year period, the voting-age citizen population in the United States increased by roughly 9 million people.
In 2008, 71 percent of voting-age citizens were registered to vote, a decrease compared to the 72 percent who were registered in 2004. The 2008 election had a higher registration rate than the presidential election of 2000, but was not statistically different from the 1996 rate. Overall, 146 million people were registered to vote in 2008, an increase of approximately 4 million people since 2004.
So with 131 million voting in 2008, and a 71% registration rate (146 million), we saw 15 million already registered voters who failed to cast a ballot.
But with nearly 30% of the eligible Voters failing to even register, an amazing 59,633,802, that brings the total of those who COULD vote, but either didn't register or vote to 74,633,802.
Imagine what our nation COULD look like if we could get just half of those people to vote? I believe we could send the crazy Republicans packing.
So please, come join me on Voters R US. We will be using a formula which has been extremely effective in the state of Virginia this year (where they've registered over 100,000 new voters since Jan 2015).
You want a better country? Then we need a better government at all levels. The only way to get that, is to get more people registered and casting a ballot.
The journey of a 1,000 miles begins with the first step.
Take yours, send me a Invite Request to join Voters R US and let's get the ball rolling!
Due to a WA State election just days away on this coming Tuesday, I'm highlighting two local candidates who could be the progressive change we need here and two long-time state politicians, one looking to move up from the State House to the State Executive branch and the other the likely candidate to replace Harry Reid as Majority Leader should the Democratic Base find it's way to
showing up and VOTING in numbers too big to ignore in 2016.
Please, if you can, support or volunteer for these fine candidates and help rebuild the Democratic Party, so that we can toss the crazy, lying Republicans out of office and get to work to make the future one worth leaving to our grandchildren!
Jim Moeller for Lt. Governor, Washington State
ELECTION DAY: November 8, 2016
Please consider helping this long-time progressive champion win the primary from the current Democratic incumbent, who has held the office since 1997. It's time for a fresh face in this office and Jim Moeller is the right choice for Washington in 2016.
From Jim Moeller's campaign website, Jim Moeller to run for Lt Governor.
Moeller is a lifelong Washingtonian and a proud progressive Democrat. A healthcare professional who has served the needs of his community for 40 years, Jim is an effective, experienced and principled leader. Currently serving as House Speaker Pro Tempore, Moeller has sponsored more than 100 pieces of legislation into law, including reform for seniors, vets, education, and vulnerable adults.
Once in office as Lieutenant Governor, Moeller plans to push for increasing the statewide minimum wage to $15, enacting stricter gun regulations, and passing a capital gains tax to help fund the state’s education system.

Eric LaBrant for Port Commissioner - Clark County, WA
ELECTION DAY: November 3, 2015
Please, if you know anyone who lives in Clark County, Washington - call them up this weekend and remind them to send in or drop off their ballot BY TUESDAY, NOV 3rd and to be sure and choose Eric LaBrant for Port Commissioner, if they value the quality of life in the county! Eric is strongly against new oil terminals (and the dangerous oil trains they bring with them) being supported by the Republicans and foreign companies who stand to gain from them.
From his campaign website Endorsements
The list of progressive, environmental groups which has endorsed Eric LaBrant for Port Commissioner is long and comprehensive. From Progressive Majority Washington to Washington Conservation Voters to the IAFF and ILWU unions and many more.
“The longshoremen and women rely on the port for 100 percent of their jobs,” Eric said. “I’m humbled to have earned their trust. And I’m grateful for their leadership in the fight against dangerous oil trains.”

Mike Dalesandro for County Council Chair - Clark County, WA
ELECTION DAY: November 3, 2015
Clark County was once a bastion of liberal politics, but it's been infiltrated by a pernicious wealthy conservative who has been making a lot of trouble in this little corner of Washington State for a number of years now. He was finally trumped by the voters in this summer's primary election even though he spent nearly $200,000 of his own money trying to buy up the new Chair seat. Since that loss, he's been funding a crazy Write-in campaign for a 18th LD State Rep. The theory which is being discussed on Facebook is that if he can buy her the seat, then she'll resign in 2016 (from a four year term) to run for State Senate and appoint.... HIM to the seat he couldn't win from the voters!
So please, if you know anyone who lives in Clark County, Washington - give them a call this weekend and remind them of the Tuesday ballot drop off deadline and recommend to them a candidate who will help this county heal from the self-centered machinations of David Madore, a wealthy transplant from California who has been trying to buy up the County Government here for over five years now.
From Mike's campaign website About Mike:
Clark County deserves leadership that brings people together to protect the quality of life we enjoy. Our families need an advocate who will focus on public safety, job creation, transportation improvements, and responsible government spending – I will be that advocate. I’m supported by a broad spectrum of community members ready for a new voice in leadership with a balanced, collaborative approach to good government. I’m ready to work with you to build a promising future for Clark County. I ask for your support and your vote.

Patty Murray for US Senate - Washington State
ELECTION DAY: November 8, 2016
While four term US Senator Patty Murray has irked some Washington state voters with her vote on the TPP (me, included), there can be no denying that this "pragmatic progressive" has served the Citizens of Washington State well since first elected to the US Senate in 1992.
Via Progressive Majority Washington, from Mother Jones “[Patty]’s a pragmatic progressive who will push for the most liberal policies she can pass while still being willing to forge compromise with the centrists in her party.”
From her campaign website About Patty
As one of the few members of Congress who has been able to break through the partisanship and gridlock to create jobs and boost the economy, Patty never gives up on her core principles and values -- but she always looks for ways to build partnerships with anyone, from any party, who is willing to work with her to get results for Washington state families and communities.
Patty is currently the fourth-ranking Democrat in the United States Senate and a senior member of the Veterans Affairs and Appropriations Committee -- but she has never forgotten where she comes from or who she represents. She comes home almost every weekend, travels across Washington state listening to her constituents, and then goes back to Washington, D.C., to help families, solve problems, and fight for Washington state priorities.
