I don’t know that I’m having much trouble with the current DK iteration. So far, my chosen method of writing seems to be working just fine. Of course, I don’t spend as much time here as some of the rest of you do.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Stuff going on at work — I may be retiring sooner even than I had planned. I was shooting for retiring at age 70 until recently, then 66 started to look pretty good. What with one thing and another, it may be next year. We’ll see.
*************************************************************************************************
I am not eager to retire while I’m still too young for Medicare. With any luck, I might be able to talk myself onto a project I know about. However, I will also be looking at what my options are as far as going through with retiring. My brother who’s roughly a year and a half younger than I am (61 as of last Thursday) has retired. I knew he was considering it, since he held forth in great detail about how tired he was of getting home soaking wet from working outside all day (surveyor), and mentioned he was looking into retiring the last time we actually talked. But it is now official.
I did talk to the brother in question on his birthday. To let you know how close knit a family we are, I had to call my mother first because neither the phone number nor the email address I had for him were valid any more. He did tell me I was the first to call to wish him a happy day — I told him I hadn’t known it was a contest.
The painting where I live seems to be done, except for some of the trim. Considering how wet it’s been lately, I’m not sure when the last bits will be finished.
I’ve told my firstborn about my work situation. I may not be able to get myself another MINI Cooper, like I want to. She says there’s a perfectly good car for me to use right across the parking lot. I know, but I don’t enjoy driving it. Yeah, I know — real first-world problem here.
I just sent off the first payment for the hotel for Netroots Nation 2016. I should be able to get it taken care of in good time. I plan to get my airfare taken care of moderately soon as well. I do hope I don’t end up getting a non-stop from Portland changed to a windup plane to Seattle and non-stop from there like happened for Arizona.
Does anybody know if the repairs to Highway 10 near the California/Arizona border have been completed?
