I’m not talking about a specific candidate in this diary. All I have to say is this:
One party has a serious contender for the Presidency who is willing to urge his followers to attack protesters physically. Nobody in that party condemns him for doing so.
One party has a serious contender for the Presidency who will defend his followers for physically attacking those who oppose his candidacy. Nobody in that party condemns him for this.
One party has multiple major, serious contenders for the Presidency calling for a religious test in order to enter this country. Nobody in that party is condemning them for this.
One party has multiple major, serious contenders for the Presidency advocating deportation of long term residents of this country if they are here illegally. They have specifically said no exceptions will be made. That means, children, the elderly, the sick… all of them. Nobody in that party is condemning them for this.
One party is enthused about the idea of forcing a religious minority to wear badges to identify themselves. Again, crickets from within that party.
That same party has for years wanted the end of social security and medicare.
And women’s rights across a broad spectrum of issues ranging from healthcare to equal pay.
Let’s talk about the rights of African-Americans and LGBT… actually, no, let’s not. I’m depressed enough.
We haven’t even mentioned economics, the environment, the judiciary, police violence… and we don’t really need to, do we?
So, come May, June or whatever and your favorite candidate did not win the Democratic primary I have a challenge for you before you say you will not vote in November.
Find a Latino and tell them you will not vote because the candidate who won is too corporate or too socialist for you.
Find a Muslim and tell them you will not vote because the candidate who won isn’t a real Democrat or isn’t telling the truth about TPP.
Find an actual Syrian refugee and let them know you will not vote because there “is not a substantial difference between the parties.”
Me? I’m voting. I have Muslim neighbors they are preparing to come for. I’m voting. I have Latino friends who simply want to earn a decent living and provide for their children. I’m voting. I have a daughter. She is not going to be someone’s fucking handmaid.
One party has crossed the line into fascism, one has not. The choice is yours.
