This is a man named Harry Houck. He’s an ‘analyst’ for CNN.
I don’t like CNN, it’s horrible to watch and gives America a bad name.
And Houck is not doing us any favors either.
However, to CNN’s credit, the anchor, Brooke Baldwin intervened appropriately as Houck went on quite a tirade that shows in a nutshell what’s wrong with a lot of cops. His attitude. It’s awful and it’s racist. And she tries to shut him down and get him to back up, but he shouts over her at NAACP Youth President Stephen Green.
He is talking with Green and Baldwin about Rahm’s firing of McCarthy and the activist was describing their focus and drive for a complete top to bottom and back up level of reform and how they won’t be satisfied with just somebody being fired.
Houck says Rahm should be impeached and that the ‘national guard should be sent int o take back Chicago from the thugs”.
Then in a bit more intense exchange Houck deployed the “You People” bit and Baldwin cuts in to openly correct him, for all the good it does.
Houch shows us clearly he’s a dick and he shimmers with cop entitlement, that they just need to go do “aggressive police work” and basically be left alone. He also said they need to vote for a republican who would come in and clean house. Hail the conquering heros.
He’s mean, out of touch, feels entitled to use racist terms on national TV to a younger black man - who was rhetorically kicking Houck’s ass — and call him “you people”. It’s scary to think of him on the street doing police work.
Aside from the straight-up racist use of this term in this context, it also very much highlights how Houck feels he is NOTHING like Green or “those people”. As in somehow substantially different despite being human beings. He thinks he is superior.
A fine of what is at play in the crisis we have with America’s cops.
The other thing this video tells me, per Mr’ Green’s excellent presentation and statement of goals: this toothpaste isn’t going back into the tube.
It’s real, and it’s underway.
