David Vitter’s sound defeat in the recent Louisiana Gubernatorial election has brought some welcome promise for LGBT government contracted employees. Governor-elect John Bel Edwards has pledged to sign an executive order reinstating workplace protections that had been in place prior to snotty Bobby Jindal yanking them away in 2007, calling them “unnecessary.”
This is a very interesting development. John Bel Edwards is as far from a liberal Democrat as one can be. He is an ardent gun rights advocate, touts an anti-choice stance and has never supported marriage equality. That is how this Democrat was able to get himself solidly elected in deep south Louisiana. The difference is, he respects the law and understands that one’s personal beliefs do not supersede it.
Of course this isn’t sitting well with the usual cranks.
"I have equal concerns that religious liberties may be jeopardized," said Gene Mills, head of the Louisiana Family Forum.
To that I say that the days of “religious liberties” trumping “all men are created equal” are coming to a close, Gene.
