This year the Winter Solstice is
Monday, December 21st at 11:48 p.m. EST. This is the moment when the Sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn, and we have our shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Regardless of what the weather is doing outside your window, the Solstice marks the official start of the winter season.
Well, for one thing it will not be winter weather for many of us due to the strong El Niño we are having. But that is beyond our control.
But have you noticed the deliberate war people are waging against the Winter Solstice? You would think that it was Bernie the way it is being blacked out. Even Bernie has overcome the blackout as much as possible.
Notice how nearly complete the blackout on the solstice is. People are saying “Happy Holidays” along with more specific holiday greetings, but how many explicitly mention the solstice?
The Solstice celebration is the oldest known to humankind.
The Winter Solstice has played an important role in cultures worldwide from ancient times until today. In fact, many of the customs, lore, symbols, and rituals associated with Christmas are actually associated with Winter Solstice celebrations of ancient Pagan cultures.
This makes the war against it even more disturbing. How can we who celebrate the solstice do something about this blackout? Is this an assault on our freedom from religion?
