Chuck Todd is the epitome of inside-the-beltway cluelessness, but today he really outdid himself.
In his Monday morning First Read column, the host of Meet the Press ran around in logical circles trying to justify his claim that recent polling showing Bernie Sanders’ strength in the general election was ‘fools gold’.
What was his reasoning?
When is the last time you've seen national Republicans issue even a press release on Sanders?
Bernie’s strength in potential matchups proves that the Republicans would much rather face Hillary in the general election. Is it any wonder that they aren’t keen to promote his candidacy? Saying that because they’re ignoring him proves he can’t beat them is a special kind of circular logic that we could only expect from the one and only Chuck Todd.
To back up his claim, Todd notes that Bernie has yet to be attacked about some fiction he wrote 40 years ago, which wasn’t so much fantasy fiction as it was a use of a fictitious scenario in an essay about gender roles. While it’s true that Bernie has yet to go on the defensive about anything, this example is laughably stupid and irrelevant. Even the National Review called the essay ‘insignificant.’
If this is the best that Chuck Todd can come up with, I think it’s safe to say a negative campaign against Bernie will be a hard scratch.
