Did anyone else just see the clip on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell?
Ted Cruz was asked if he believes Supreme Court decisions are the law of the land and he said no!
I was so stunned that I reached for the remote to rewind and hear it again and accidentally switched to another channel so now I can’t check exactly what he said.
I know he had said something like this when pandering to conservative evangelicals in the wake of the Obergefell decision, but I did not realize there was proof on video.
How in holy hell is this not an automatic disqualifier for the office of the presidency?
I wonder what John Roberts would say about swearing in a president who announce in advance he plans to ignore Supreme Court decisions he did not like?
Actually, Cruz would probably be sworn in by Scalia or Thomas...
I’m sorry this diary is a rambling rant—I am just struck dumb by the absurdity of a presidential candidate still being considered a legitimate contender after saying something like that.
But I guess a large number of voters are right there with him.
Republicons want to destroy all parts of government that don’t do exactly what they want when they want it. Government by two-year-olds.
So let me get this straight.
Cruz thinks he gets to decide who is a citizen and who is not.
He thinks he gets to decide what is legal and what is not.
He thinks he gets to decide what is constitutional and what is not.
He doesn’t want to be president. He wants to be a theocratic king.
And millions of people are OK with that?
Damn. W T F does not even begin to cover it.
update--now I have seen the tape of the rebroadcast and the actual quote is as follows:
Woman at Iowa event on January 9: “Do you believe the Supreme Court decisions are the law of the land?”
Cruz: (immediately, with no hesitation) “Not remotely.”
