With all eyes on Iowa, as its coming up Monday, a new poll has been released for the South Carolina primary:
LIKELY DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTERS January 2016
Hillary Clinton 64
Bernie Sanders 27
Martin O'Malley 2
Other 0
Undecided 7
This matters once again because everyone knows Bernie is lagging badly with non-whites, especially Hispanics and African Americans. Both of these groups are core Democratic constituencies we need to turn out for the GE and turn out big, given Trump’s potential with white-working class voters. Iowa and New Hampshire are indeed swing states in a general, but their primaries are mainly white progressives (people who will come out no matter what); a winning electoral coalition needs a lot more than that.
Additionally, a poll of Pennsylvania, which has a lot of white-working class voters, a constituency Democrats badly need to improve with, has Hillary up by a big margin as well.
