Just a quick hit. I’m realizing now after seeing two people on a thread say they were in NYC and were kind of pining for something scheduled here to replicate the amazing energy Bernie has been seen getting all over the country whenever and wherever he schedules a rally.
Well, there’s one today in NYC. The People have organized this one to show how much support he has here. We won’t have Bernie here today but I’m sure we’ll have an outpouring similar to what he’s getting nationwide.
Even folks who generally don’t do marches seem enthused about this. The official campaign website poster of the event says their expecting thousands.
For me and many others the symbolism of marching back to Zuccotti Park is very powerful. Bernie’s message is almost 100% Occupy; let’s say 99% for the poetic. Money In Politics was the elephant in the room Occupiers were pointing to, specifically with respect to the Economic Terrorism of Wall St and the sheer destruction it wrought on countless millions and millions all over the globe. As I’ve said elsewhere in another diary, I know of not one, single, solitary person affiliated with or who participated in or who was a very partial supporter of OWS that prefers Clinton over Sanders. In fact, it seems most activists I’m aware of jumped at the chance to volunteer or go to work directly for the Sanders campaign almost immediately after he announced.
Sorry for the late notice; I thought most people would have known about this. Alas, sometimes it feels like we’re a little lost on this isolated online sphere typing away and not enough out in the streets, collecting signatures, registering voters, joining protests, supporting #BlackLivesMatter and Occupy Wall St by standing in public in solidarity, petitioning our elected reps, occupying offices, putting more pressure on our local leaders, forming our own local dissent groups, fighting the power.
Hope to see all you kick-ass NYers out in the streets today. Gotta run, first to help collect signatures in my district, then to celebrate this amazing campaign with the masses.
