OK before the crowd with pitchforks comes at me demanding I delete this diary, this isn’t a headline that I invented. It’s the headline taken directly from the C-SPAN website. You know C-SPAN. Not exactly a partisan source.
(UPDATE: I looked for a byline but missed that this was posted by an anonymous user to C-SPAN. The Headline has now been changed)
A better explanation comes to us from a reddit user.
FIRST VOTE: 215 Sanders 210 Clinton 26 O'Malley 8 Undecided 459 TOTAL
After this, the groups realign and another count was conducted. Sanders's group leads performed a FULL recount of all the supporters in his group. The Clinton team only added the new supporters gained to her original number from the first round of voting. I did not see another recount of the Clinton supporters taking place. It would have been very hard to miss that activity.
SECOND ROUND: 232 Clinton 224 Sanders 456 Total
There were at least 3 people who left the caucus before the second count. But the big problem is whether there were more. Just a few people would have stripped Hillary’s extra delegate away from her.
The Clinton precinct chair, Liz Buck, lied about whether she recounted all of the Clinton supporters during the second count. At 9:44pm ET she stated to the Chair that she only counted the newly gained supporters and added that to her first-round count to arrive at the new 232 total. A minute later, after the second round votes were being discussed openly, with Hillary then taking a 5-4 delegate lead, the Sanders supporters directly asked Liz if she recounted ALL of the Clinton supporters during the second round. Liz Buck answered yes to that question at 9:45pm ET stating that she DID count them all. It's all on tape.
It’s absolutely despicable that the Clinton precinct chair lied about whether she did a full recount. Is this what we can expect? Anything to win? Could anyone feel good about supporting that campaign?
UPDATE, continued: Many of you have disparaged the video as not being legit because it was posted by an anonymous user, and that the write-up came from Reddit. Instead of attacking the messenger perhaps you should focus on the substance of the unaltered video provided by C-SPAN, wherein it is clear that Liz Buck lied about having done a complete recount. Just because they voted not to do a recount does not make this a ‘nothing burger’. I’m not sure what constitutes a ‘tie’ for the precinct, but just 4 people leaving the Clinton group would have lowered her total from 50.89% to 50.44% and raised Sanders’ total from 49.12% to 49.56%. If rounding accounted for awarding the extra delegate to Clinton, then rounding would have made it a tie in the above example, and left the allocation of the delegate to a coin toss, which Sanders could have won. Given that Clinton won the state by two delegates, taking one of those delegates away and awarding it to Sanders would have resulted in a complete tie. So yes, it is a big fucking deal that she lied about doing a recount.
