In the dark days of the first Dubya administration. When Democrats were being cornered in the run-up the the Iraq war. When right-wing commentators and politicians would say “Liberal” with a sneer, which they still do, fucking Frank Luntz. This was a place to gather, share ideas, then eventually those ideas became action. And I remember how happy I was to hear the founder is a liberal Army veteran too, like me. There’s much bravado in the service, combined with those times.. I can't describe it, but trust me, it was refreshing.
Now it's a bummer. We require lively, informed debate. The level of hostility is unbearable these days. If your candidate of choice is amazing, there is no need to tear down the other, now is there. Let's leave that to the Republicans. What is at stake is far greater than anything we’ve ever witnessed. We are at cusp. Republicans are getting mean and nastier than ever. I do not believe this to be politics as usual. Should they win in November, all that rage and anger they've been festering in since Jan 2009 will be animate. They’re they enemy. The enemy does not reside here.
And no, this is not a GBCW diary. I know our founder ABHORS those ;)
