Hillary Clinton supporters, apparently, feel traumatized by the fact that Bernie Sanders supporters disagree with them.
That’s the most charitable conclusion you can draw from the creation of a (reclisted!) diary that exists for no other reason except to give Clinton supporters a “safe space” where they don’t have to endure the painful cognitive dissonance of being contradicted.
Clinton supporters need protection about as much as Christmas does. Last I checked, she was still the front-runner, she still had more endorsements, and she was still assumed by most observers to be the inevitable winner of the Democratic nomination.
“But Sanders supporters are MEAN and UNCOUTH.” Really? You really want to go there? You really want to line up the biggest jerks from Sanders’ side across from the biggest jerks on Clinton’s side and see which gang is nastier? Clinton would win that caucus in a landslide.
Frankly, I think both sides could stand to dial it down several notches; it’d be better for the site as a whole. But I’m just SMFH at the idea that Clinton supporters need a special place where they can high-five each other without any clouds darkening their picnic. As if they were getting sand kicked in their faces. As if they were being discriminated against and disenfranchised. As if they themselves hadn’t been gleefully deriding the opposition as feckless and hopeless and doing their damnedest to crush its spirits all along.
Take the candidates out of the equation, and what you have with the “Open Thread for Hillary Supporters” is basically the same as going into a room and hanging a sign on the door: “No Girls Allowed.” In a building that you didn’t build. That you share with girls.
Y’all dish it out like a cafeteria, and now you’re saying you need a special place where you don’t have to take it? Nuh-uh.
