No one thought Bernie Sanders would perform as well as he has, and no one thought the supporters from both campaigns would turn the Democratic primaries into a knock down, drag em out, kick em in the ass brawl. The candidates are holding some heated debates, but the supporters have simply gone over the cliff.
The Wall St. attacks on Clinton (which would never come in the general) may have gotten to the point of mortally wounding her for the nomination. And almost every political pro knows that a 74 year old socialist promising to raise everyone's taxes has almost 0 chance of winning the general. And even if Clinton can win the nomination, there is now real concern that the Sanders supporters have gone so far, they won’t show up for the general.
We may be heading towards having 2 candidates that simply can’t win the general.
Democratic delegates are distributed proportionally in the primaries. But about ¼ of the delegates are super delegates and can vote the way they want. If the race gets closer and Bernie and Hillary split the delegates, and the supporters continue with this irrational bitterness, then those super delegates are going to start thinking about how to win the general. And the most winnable option at that point may very well be Joe Biden.
I think we are getting close to a point of no return. The nonsensical misinformation, baseless attacks … has driven the supporters to the point of craziness where there’s the real possibility of sitting out the election. I think the Democratic Super delegates need to start preparing for a possible brokered convention with a Biden draft at the conclusion.
Trump or Cruz would be a dream come true for any Democrat in a normal year, but this year the candidate’s supporters are turning the primaries into a real clusterf!@k.
