Blood pressure down a bit?
This week has seemed endless, and today was a day to try to forget. The insults seem to be rising to a new set of levels, and we’re overwhelmed (seemingly) by new voices, plus voices out of the past who haven’t been throwing pie around here for years. The fights are massive, intense, and without end.
So I took a look at when I’d joined Daily Kos, because I didn’t remember things going to hell quite so fervently way back in April of 2008, but I really didn’t remember when I’d signed up, except that it had been before the election… I invite all of you to do the same exploring that I’ve been doing — the time period between January 1 and March 31, 2008.
Start here to take a look at 36,436 diaries, with 2,488,898 comments, over 13,000 of them flagged, the top (bottom) three with over 100 Troll Ratings each. This was before the limits on negative ratings, obviously.
At that time, there were 144,772 registered users to start with, 156,997 users at the end of the period.
I invite any of you who are despairing to take a walk through a random selection of diaries from that time — and any TUs who are going mad in white linen over the quality of moderation (or lack thereof) to take the same kind of random walk through the Hiddens for that period. I won’t guarantee it, but I suspect you will come out of it with a new tolerance for the fights we’re in now.
Save the links, and check them out when the lemon meringue gets too sticky. And remember that whoever you’re hoping to vote for, there’s an election to be won after the primaries. We survived the last one; we’ll survive this one.
