No, seriously, it’s a done deal. How do I know? Well, for one thing the Chair of the Democratic Party in New Hampshire joined 90for90 last year. What does that mean? How do I know that’s a sign that New Hampshire is in the bag?
I know because it means that the Democratic Party in NH supports voter registration. Seriously supports it. And what we all know is that when a lot of people register and vote, Democrats win.
Chairman Raymond Buckley is not only the chair of the NH state party, he’s a Vice Chair of the DNC.
There are currently 25 Chairs of State Democratic Parties who have joined onto 90for90. Five more are expected to sign on this week.
With numbers like this we can’t be beat. I may be a bit overenthusiastic (something I’ve never been accused of before) but I think this could mean that the whole election is in the bag for the Democratic Party.
IF, we follow through and register voters as if our lives depended on it (because they really do) and we make sure those voters get to the polls and vote.
How can we do that? Well, it starts like this...if you are an administrator on any Daily Kos group join onto the 90for90 voter registration project/movement. They have a special section just for Daily Kos groups.
Go to the 90for90 Facebook page and click on that little “like” button. Go to the Daily Kos group DK Fans of 90for90 and click the little heart at the top of the page and follow the group. While you’re there go ahead and read some of the diaries we’ve published or republished. Lot’s of stuff about registering voters and candidates.
Wondering what 90for90 is all about? Well, you can read that all at our page, but here’s a brief synopsis:
90for90 was started in honor of Dr. Fergie Reid Sr., the first Black man to be elected to the VA legislature since Reconstruction. He turned 90 last year and when asked if he wanted to have a birthday party he said he’s rather register voters. Which is what he had been doing since the days of poll taxes and literacy tests. The goal is to register 90 new voters in each precinct in VA. Currently the total is over 190,000. The effort is being duplicated nation wide.
In order to join your Daily Kos group onto 90for90 or join your business or yourself as an activist, you have to first stipulate to 3 things, you have to believe that:
~Voting is good.
~People shouldn’t be blocked from voting.
~Honoring a man like Dr. Ferguson Reid, who is a living, breathing example of the civil rights movement in action, is a cause worth joining.
So if yes is your answer to these 3 stipulations then by all means come on and join us at all the many forms of 90for90. You can do that with a couple of clicks and an email with a few links.
You can take action immediately too. The Super Bowl starts any minute now. Maybe you’re at a Super Bowl party, at a bar or at home with friends over. Are they all registered to vote? Ask! Might be a great way to stop other arguments about stuff like whether that play really was offsides? Was it holding? Do the ref’s need glasses? Is it really ok to wear socks with sandals? Are you registered to vote might be the most innocuous question of the evening.
Now, if you can't answer yes to all 3 of those stipulations, well...I don't even know what to say.
I do firmly believe that there is a secret Republican group called 0for0 that advocates strongly for voter suppression. I’m hoping if you’re here reading this you’re going to hang with the Democrats, support 90for90 and voter registration with all the force you can muster and let's get a Democratic House, Congress and President elected. City by city, state by state, until we have a country.
