As the world turns, and while the rest of DK bludgeons each other to mush with Bernie or Hillary related verbal brickbats, I thought we should look at a different controversy – wearing socks with sandals.
OMG! Who does that, CQ?! ---— You may rightly ask, all shocked and awed. However, let’s look at the phenomenon, shall we?
Below Itzl, the censure, mild extolling and examination continues. Also, recipes!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! If you would like to write a diary, let us know in a comment. Ok, we have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

Apparently, some early archaeological evidence exists for this fashion statement. The old Romans legionnaires wore socks with sandals, 2000 years ago.
Indeed, divers on the River Tees at Piercebridge, U.K., found some objects shaped like a human leg looking like it’s wearing herringbone knitted socks. The spokesperson declared that the object:
[...] provides "unequivocal evidence that the Romans wore socks with open-toed sandals". Not just ankle socks; these go up to the knees like those of British officer in some sultry colonial outpost.
This is a fashion statement with some history and loooong Colonial heft. Somebody, no doubt famous (internet quotes are always someone famous...), once said that an army marches on its stomach. That may very well be, but the old Romans in ancient Britain were definitely marching in their socks while wearing their hobnailed sandal-boots.
Some fashion trends have all the longevity! This one still continues today. As does Colonialism.
In our current times, this has been an ongoing fashion dilemma. Some do and some don’t. It is considered a very top tier fashion faux pas of all time. Apparently David Beckham and Justin Bieber have been mocked for socking a sandal. Furthermore, it continues as a Pacific Northwest fashion norm, even while geeks may want to claim this trend for their own.
And then it hit the catwalk/runway scene.
The alleged atrocity of sandalized socking began in the Spring 2010 runway shows:
The atrocities began during the Spring 2010 runway shows. John Galliano sent models down the runway with iridescent mid-calf socks under open-toe platform sandals at Dior. Over in London, Christopher Bailey’s trenchcoat-clad models stomped down the Burberry runway in the only footwear accessory that makes sense for a rainy day in England — slouchy wool-blend socks with platform sandals.
And have continued!
Here, in these United States while people were boiling up to the Super Bowl date, and just as busy roiling blogland by delivering primary beat-down and experiencing post beat-down euphoria and camaraderie, the Olsen twins have been seen lending their fashion glamour to this sock-in-sandals trend. Indeed, it appears that others are joining them. In droves! It’s a damn trend with its own #hashtag.
I’m throwing in the towel! I will be socking my sandal too. Well, as soon as I don’t have to wear these.
Although, I have to ask – Where are Bernie and Hillary on this fashion trend? And where is Obama? These are the most important questions we are asking in today’s IAN diary.
Onward to recipes:
Since someone mentioned mac-cheese in an earlier comment thread (IAN comment threads make me hungry – will diary that one of these days!) I am linking to two mac& cheese recipes. If you have a favorite, please provide in comments. I have not had mac/cheese in 4 years. I hope to make some this week, since I will be on my own for a week. Yay, I can experiment with mac/cheese.
Even kitteh is wearing socks on his paws.
Oh, also, Happy Year of the Monkey.
Hat tip to ZenTrainer, for bringing to my attention this loud and large controversy.
