I think this is my biggest pet peeve as a Sander’s supporter. There is no revolution, because if there was, he would be doing better, he would have more diverse support, he would have won more States so far (FOUR, count ‘em, four elections so far).
It’s broken guys, this argument is fundamentally broken. Even if the revolution is not big enough for you, it’s affected many others. Even if you are not impressed, there are millions of others who have been roused, rallied and inspired. Even if you, dear Clinton supporter, even if you cannot understand it, you patronizing and looking down your nose at those who you may need to support your Candidate in the General election, to us, there is a revolution.
Thousands line up to see Bernie Sanders in Austin
I don’t know about you, but it sounds like the people in Austin are excited.
Currently, Hillary Clinton has taken the lead in Texas. Clinton has a full 10-percentage point lead over Sanders, according to the Texas Tribune poll. However, Clinton is behind in the age group favoring her, drawing support from 55-percent of voters ages 30 and older. Sanders is appealing to younger voters as the favorite for 62-percent of the 18 to 29 age bracket.
- Hillary Clinton: 54%
- Bernie Sanders: 44%
A few weeks ago, Clinton’s campaign opened an office in East Austin where Sanders already had an office.
Where Sander’s already had an office. Haven’t we heard this already? Isn’t this something we’ve heard before. So you see, this is how I see it. Senator Sander’s wasn’t supposed to be an issue to Clinton, he wasn’t supposed to be a contender, or even a blip on the screen. But he has been.
And even though there was a huge media black out on Sanders early on in the months of the Democratic Primary, his momentum grew, he built a campaign. He started what others have said is not really a “revolution” because he hasn’t had sweeping wins except in New Hampshire, so you see, that’s PROOF right there, there is no revolution.
WHY are you feeding the narrative that the establishment would want you to believe? WHY are you discouraging people who are excited to be involved and engaged? WHY are you belittling the efforts of those who are working very hard to make sure that issues that are important and should be at the very heart of any good Democratic platform?
You don’t want to admit that there is something happening? You know when you do this doesn’t mean that Clinton might lose? This does not diminish her success as a leader, as a candidate or as a possible nominee? We can agree that even if Sander’s campaign does not come out ahead, he has pushed to the forefront issues that still must be addressed by our very broken political process. This is an issue that is so ingrained that it cannot be fixed unless there is a revolution of sorts. Things need to change if, gasp, we want to address issues that go beyond mere income inequality.
I hear people say that Sander’s hasn’t been fighting for the black community long enough. He’s just started talking about these issues. The thing is this, Sander’s has been talking about income disparity and a broken system for years and one of the things that can actually help reduce poverty in communities of color is access to free healthcare, higher education and raising minimum wage.
Will it solve institutionalized racism? Of course not! But it will level the playing field in some very small way so that socio-economic situation for those that struggle can be made better! So that anyone can go to public college without going into ridiculous debt, so that anyone can work forty hours and make a decent wage, so that no one has to worry about getting sick and going bankrupt. This alone is imperative for ALL OF US.
Just because you refuse to see there is a revolution, just because it’s not BIG enough for you, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And every time you point it out, I will refute you. I will challenge you because every time you say it’s not enough, you are also insulting those who are working so hard for Sanders. It also doesn’t do one iota of good for Clinton’s campaign. It continues to paint her supporters as patronizing and out of touch and alienates those people who might come in handy once she wins the nomination.
STOP insulting what you may not understand. You can want Clinton to win the nomination without having to insult those that don’t support her.
The revolution is here and you should seriously think of being a part of it, it could change so very much for every-single-one-of-us. And that doesn’t mean you have to vote for Sanders or support him, but it does mean that maybe we should aim higher for what we want as a party, stop asking for things in the middle hoping we might get what we want and losing it all. The American people support the platform, why can’t we start acting like it?
