Short post, and no complicated graphs/trends/etc. Plenty of that other stuff around.
Point is that, what those of us who were early Sanders supporters might sometimes forget* is that we started:
- Tackling THE biggest Shibboleth in American politics today: Socialist. While everyone else has been scurrying to be more “moderate” than the other D, he proudly wears a label (like “Liberal”, that every other D has run away from like frightened school-kids!) that he is ready to stand up and defend. Gotta respect that!!
- About 98% down in “The Polls”. Nuff said…..
- Virtually zero “Name Recognition”.
- No “Machine”. (Not as derogatory as HRC supporters may imply: My meaning is “a network of contacts, associates, fellow travellers, etc. within the existing political establishment”.) Bernie has had to build everything from scratch, no “establishment” support, etc.
Given the above, it’s not surprising that we will suffer defeats on the road to Victory. No one who has ever “fought in the ring” for real has not known the sting of defeat.
What do we do? Stand up, dust off, and move on to the next “State**”.
* — A wise man once told me that “people are not slow-learners, they are fast-forgetters.”.
** — Being a Georgian, I cannot resist our/my favorite joke about South Carolina….
Q: Why is South Carolina a state?
A: Because it’s too small to be a country, and too big to be an Insane Asylum. :-)
Peace!
