Looking at Bernie and Hillary, I wonder if there would be a race if Hillary were not female. I read her supporters’ comments touting her experience and down playing her donors, like private prison corporations and Wall Street bankers. What bills did she sponsor as a Senator? Why did she vote for the war in Iraq? Some supporters are frankly voting for her because “It is time for a woman to be president” and not much else. Has the polarizing of America gotten to the point where a single characteristic --gender in this case— becomes the only factor in a voter’s analysis? My question would be: If the general election had Carly Fiorina as the Republican candidate and Bernie Sanders as the Democrat, how many of Hillary’s supporters would vote for Fiorina? If so, then issues would not be as important as gender.
