Monday, CNN announced the results of its latest poll. In a hypothetical general election, Bernie Sanders slams Trump 55-43%. Sanders slams Rubio 53% to 45%. Sanders crushes Cruz 57% to 40%. Hillary Clinton also beats Trump, 52-44%. But, Hillary LOSES to Cruz, 48-49%, and LOSES to Rubio 50-47%. The mistaken belief that Hillary is more electable than Bernie is among Hillary’s greatest assets, and has cost Bernie many votes.
Tuesday, Bernie Sanders added to his NH victory the states of OK, CO, MN and VT. Bernie won these States, plus delegates from the other Super Tuesday States, without relying on Super [secret] PAC $. Bernie won without asking a single millionaire or billionaire for money.
Several of Hillary’s “victories” over Bernie, like IA, MA and NV were marginal. Other victories were in states like Alabama, a State that has not cast electoral votes for a Democrat in 60 years. South Carolina and many of the other States Hillary won have not cast electoral votes for a Democrat in a very long time, for example: AK (1964), AR (1964 - except Bill Clinton); TX (1976); TN (1976, except Clinton-Gore), and GA (once since 1984).
Hillary began 2015 with 8 years’ experience as First Lady and several years’ experience as Secretary of State. Eight years ago Hillary almost beat Barack Obama for the DEM nomination. Hillary had money, organization, endorsements and Bill Clinton’s legacy of goodwill and political know-how. Bernie started 2015 with a vision of America where justice was equal, healthcare was universal and higher education was free.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) kept the number of debates small and scheduled them at unusual times. These DNC decisions favored Hillary and denied the electorate an opportunity to make an informed decision about Bernie Sanders. The DNC puts its thumb on the scale in Hillary’s favor whenever it can. With all Hillary’s advantages, she has done poorly.
Bernie’s momentum is strong and building. It may not look like it right now, but Hillary is not winning – she is losing.
