I’m having my benefits garnished thanks to the Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996 (apologies on not finding this on congress.gov) signed into law by President Clinton. I understand that was then, but now that Hillary is running, I’m worried the financial industry that profits off of student loan debt and federal agencies who allow this will receive more protections from Hillary instead of a way to help the most vulnerable Americans.
At least Bernie understands my issue, especially since he is a co-sponsor on Senator Wyden’s bill, S.2387 - Protection of Social Security Benefits Restoration Act.
Btw, here’s an article from The Hill back in December of 2014. No comments whatsoever. Am I surprised? No, but it does give me a good clue into how our country feels about those of us who just happen to become disabled from a workplace injury or medical negligence. I understand The Hill has swamp raider commenters, but they couldn’t even muster up any trollish comments about Senator Wyden’s bill.
I’m smart enough to know nothing gets accomplished in Congress due to lobbyists and politicians who are slaves to Wall Street, however, I’m willing to bet Bernie Sanders will at least try to find a way instead of ignoring a disabled, ½ black woman like me.
I know what it’s like to be continuously ignored by federal agencies when asking questions. I’m hoping federal agencies will be more forthcoming once Bernie is President. Cause they sure won’t answer anything if Hillary is elected.
If you fall into the “in your dreams” category of readers who read this diary, at least you’ve acknowledged that I kept your attention.
Daily Kos was recommended by a Republican who thought I might enjoy a website devoted to progressives/liberals who believe in equality for all. I never thought I’d see (or read) justification for voting in a candidate who will do nothing but provide us with an administration that will be tied up in court.
Nothing will get accomplished except for legislation skewed for the 1%, since obviously our DNC is a cover for the corporate class and provided no way of producing Democrats in office for all 50 states.
I understand you can vote for whichever candidate you choose, but don’t come to a site devoted to transparency in government and claim Hillary will help us. She’s a crony capitalist like the Bush family. At least the GOP voters realized they didn’t want another Bush. (I understand the ‘new’ batch aren’t any better, just a different brand of corporate stooge)
Even though I’m fairly pale for a ½ black woman, I still get tagged for discrimination based on the 1 drop nappy headed rule. Add gay and disabled to the mix and you have a record of being ignored or tossed off to the side simply because this is America. But when you speak well and know how to write letters to government agencies, people seem to believe that one can’t possibly be disabled. I’m a pigeonhole survivor.
*Please read and share anything about #CriptheVote. I just learned about this hashtag yesterday thanks to an email article from Think Progress and was able to find more info on the Twitter hashtag. We have a large voting block, but a lot of us could use some help getting to the polls or filling out mail-in ballots. Not sure how many still need to register.
**I’d love to stay and chat in the comments, but my non-stop spasms, pain & numbness from typing this diary has me out. It’s also rent day for those of us who receive garnished benefits today. I’ll check back if I can, but hopefully I’ve given you a point of view that you may not have heard about in this country. Cause the Presidential candidates only refer to disabled veterans…
Thanks for reading and have a gay day!!!
